The Ultimate Comparison: Amazon Cloud vs. Google Cloud

The Amazon Web Services (AWS) is at the forefront of cloud computing services since it was launched in 2006. It was the first of its kind in the Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) division of cloud computing services. However, after five years, other providers have begun to emerge and offer cloud services as well. Currently, the Amazon web services deliver an overwhelming number of services compared to its competitors. However, the Google Cloud Platform (GCP), one of its competitors, chose to focus on presenting new products to their platform as quickly as possible rather than offer an abundance of services. Here, we list some of the key points of comparison between the Amazon cloud services and the Google Cloud Platform.

Big Data Systems

Amazon cloud services continue to be the front-runner when it comes to creating Big Data Systems. This is in large part due to their comprehensive integration with several popular Development and Operations (DevOps) tools. Some of these Amazon cloud services tools include Kubernetes and Docker. Moreover, the Amazon web services has AWS Lambda to cater to quick Big Data analysis suitable for serverless computing.

On the other hand, the GCP carries the world’s largest storage of Big Data through Google Chrome. This opens a wide range of possibilities in terms of product development for GCP. For instance, GCP’s Bigquery can analyze massive volumes of data quickly. Moreover, Bigquery has a user-friendly interface and an impressive learning curve.

Payment Options

Studies suggest that the use of Amazon cloud services is more cost-effective than having a physical hardware. The cost primarily comes down to the efficient use of resources as well as a good billing scheme. The Amazon web services employs an hourly billing scheme. For instance, using the Amazon cloud services for 1 hour and 20 minutes would require you to pay for 2 full hours. Moreover, their billing schemes come in packages for their EC2 virtual machines. For example, you need to avail the fixed 2 GB package although your task only requires 1.4 GB RAM. The GCP, as opposed to the Amazon web services, offers a per-second billing option for their virtual machines.

Traffic Security and Privacy Concerns

After the recently reported infiltration of the National Security Agency on Google, efforts have been made by Google to fully encrypt their channels and data. Stored data and inter-data traffic were also completely encrypted. On the contrary, Amazon web services provides data encryption only as an option through their Relational Database Service (RDS). This poses a serious concern for those who use the Amazon cloud services.

Based on the key points mentioned above, GCP proves to be a contender against Amazon cloud services despite entering the market later. It is important to note that the Amazon web services had a 5-year head start which led them to more products and customers. However, GCP can provide the needed secure functions to its customers at a competitive price.  In the end, it is important that you check the actual requirements of your project. Then, determine which cloud computing service will best fit your needs and budget.

I didn’t know much of the difference until I read your post. Thanks for explaining it for us. I can vouch for Amazon, perhaps because it was the one who arrived first and that I’ve had experience with it. Although Google is something worth looking into.

I have read several good stuff here. Certainly worth bookmarking for revisiting. I wonder how much effort you put to make such a great informative web site.

Definitely believe that which you stated. Your favorite reason seemed to be on the internet the easiest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I certainly get annoyed while people think about worries that they just don’t know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also defined out the whole thing without having side effect , people can take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thanks
